What is Health Coaching?

A health coach is a person trained to partner with you to help you explore your health and wellness goals, and create positive action! As a womens’ health nurse, I specialize in the issues unique to women and the challenges they face in everyday life.

A health coach can help you:

  • Prioritize your goals

  • Create action steps

  • Find your own motivation for change

  • Stay on track with your goals

  • Develop techniques for success

  • Reduce stress and feel better

  • Create long-lasting health habits

  • Gain confidence in yourself!

In health coaching, we explore what is important to you in the context of your life, and build doable goals around that. Health coaching is about self-empowerment and self-discovery. You already have what you need to succeed within you- as your health coach, I assist and encourage you in tapping into your inner motivation and power!

Health coaching is not medical or mental health care. It is a systematic process of goal setting and action planning, combined with reflection, encouragement and accountability.

Change is a process, not an event. We strive for progress, not perfection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of working with a health coach?

Most of us know what we need to do to reach our goals- it’s getting from point A to B that can cause us to lose focus on our own. A health coach works with you to explore your strengths and challenges and helps you use that information to develop action steps that are specific and reachable. Your coach serves as your accountability partner, your cheerleader, and your troubleshooter to keep progress moving forward!

In addition, the skills you develop in your health coaching sessions will stay with you and allow you to apply them to future goals on your own.

Is health coaching therapy?

No. I am not a mental health professional and do not diagnose or treat any conditions. My role is to guide and encourage you through a systematic process of setting and reaching your goals.

If any mental health concerns arise in the course of our work together, I will direct you toward the appropriate resources.

How long should you work with a health coach?

This depends on the goals you want to reach and the time needed to do that. I recommend a 3-month program for a straightforward goal. A 6-month program would be better if you have multiple goals or a complex or challenging goal that you would like to tackle.

I do offer a 6-week program if you would like to take the coaching process for a trial run.

You can even sign up for a single coaching session if you like!

What happens in a health coaching session?

My health coaching sessions are 60 minutes long.

In the initial session, we dig deep into your current state, your desired state, your priorities and your values. What makes you tick? What drives you? What are your challenges?

Once we have set some goals and created some action steps, ongoing sessions involve reviewing your success and challenges from the previous week and tweaking the plan as needed. Think of it as an experimental process where we try things out, analyze the results, and use the results to form the next stage of the plan.
